Dear All,

From the chill of the wintry holidays, and the wonderful celebrations for NAIDOC week, we find God’s Spirit stirring among young Australian Catholics.

I spent a great couple of days travelling around with James Meston to promote the Australian Catholic Youth Festival. We were very happy to hear of the enthusiasm of students, schools and young adults for this opportunity and we look forward to a good number travelling there from our diocese. As James reminded us, it will be 18 YEARS before the Festival will be held in Adelaide again, so the time is now. Please note that the due date for Australian Youth Festival scholarships has been extended to the 20th of July. For public school scholarships: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/P7T5JZB or for general scholarships: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/P9Y2TMC. In Peace,

Bible Verse Like
“The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.” Psalm 89:11

I like this verse because it tells people that everything is for humans. To create things and help and care for the earth.

Life Teen Training Conference
The Conference will run from 18-20 September at the Benedict XVI Retreat Centre just outside of Sydney and it is open to all youth leaders (and potential youth leaders) aged 16-35, plus active youth leaders over that age. We are not wanting this to be a Sydney event but rather a national opportunity for young people to encounter a high energy formation opportunity run by one of the most successful Catholic youth movements in the USA. We have been liaising with Life Teen for over a year and are excited that the event is fast approaching. This weekend is not just about Life Teen (but of course there will be some sessions on what it is all about) but rather a weekend about how we can best reach out to our young people, how to engage, catechise and form them, and of course how to energise ourselves for the task.

Prayer from Laudato Si’ – Encyclical of Pope Francis
All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.

Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.

Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.

Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.

We thank you for being with us each day.

Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle
for justice, love and peace. Amen.
