Dear All, Well, this is the 100th edition of the Port Pirie Diocese Youth E-News. So happy birthday!
This past week has been Vocations Awareness Week and it has been a chance to reflect on God’s many callings throughout our lives, both the ‘small v’ vocational paths and the ‘big V’ Vocation to a life path of relationship. We continue to pray for God to keep calling young people to greater life, love and freedom in ministry, in family, in the Church and in our world. We also look forward to the next step in the vocation path of Ramel Morales, who will be ordained as a deacon on Saturday the 5th of September. Below is a prayer from Thomas Merton for all who are discerning their way forward in life.
Saturday was the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s first and only saint. Find below a webpage about her legacy and young people. We also celebrated a Youth-led Mass in Port Augusta and there is a photo with some of the young people who participated in it.
Below is a call from the YCW to record a story of yours about work and life.
God bless and Peace,
Sr Elizabeth Young youthministry@pp.catholic.org.au 0448 809 134

“He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul…I fear no evil; for you are with me.” Psalm 23:2,4
This is a most reassuring image of God for me. To know there is someone who loves me so much and will care for me so lovingly is a blessing. A beautiful verse to meditate on when things are difficult.

Discernment prayer from Thomas Merton

My Lord God,
I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope I have that desire in all I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road. Though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me.
And you will never leave me to face my struggles alone.

A small boy came home from church one morning with his mother. She noticed that he had a very serious look on his face.
"What's on your mind, son?" she asked.
"Is it true what Father said, about us all coming from dust and all turning back to dust?"
"Yes, it is, son," she said. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, then when we get home," he answered, "you better look under my bed, because someone's either coming or going."
