Dear All,
We are in the processing of registering the last participants in our diocesan group for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival. You have until the end of the week to join the crowd! The Festival song has been uploaded on to the website and is eminently sing-along-able.
This Sunday we will celebrate our World Youth Day launch and promotion in Whyalla. I look forward to the Polish food, music and games! There are some rumours that Pope Francis himself might make an appearance (albeit in cardboard).
The Adelaide Archdiocese is looking for a full-time Youth and Young Adult Ministry Coordinator, which is a great opportunity for someone passionate about sharing the gospel with young people, who also has some skills in coordination and management.
Finally, some tips for presenting from James Martin SJ, the unlikely result of the Joke with the Pope contest and an online Advent resource.
God bless and Peace,
Sr Elizabeth Young youthministry@pp.catholic.org.au 0448 809 134

“Let anyone among you who is without sin throw the first stone.” John 8:7
This is from the story of the adulterous woman who is to be stoned. I like this comment by Jesus because it points out that all of us are tainted with sin. We can't separate the good people from the bad people because the line dividing good and evil divides every person's heart.

Listen to the Youth Festival theme song: ‘Pure of Heart’ by Genevieve Bryant
The theme for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival for 2015 is
"Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God" Mt 5:8
Pure of Heart by Melbourne singer song-writer Genevieve Bryant has been chosen as the theme song for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF)2015. Taking the theme of the Festival, ‘Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God’, Genevieve Bryant asked herself, ‘where can we see God?’ The question prompted a deep musical response in singer-song writer Genevieve. ‘When our eyes are truly opened we see God as the poor and thirsty, the heart of justice, the lost and searching.’ ‘When we proclaim this belief, God gives us the grace to be pure of heart,’ which reflects the title of the song, pure of heart.

Talking to Youth? a Few Tips.
|
|
Fr. James Martin SJ, in an interview with Michael McVeigh SJ last year, shared three secrets to engaging an audience in homilies and presentations. They don’t particularly apply to youth, but certainly make sense for anyone speaking to youth:
- Be honest about your own personal struggles and flaws. Let the audience see that you’re human.
- Use stories like Jesus did. “You cannot approach writing like it is medicine”, he said.
- Meet people where they are as Jesus did. What are people doing in their daily life? How does my message relate to that?
