Dear All,

We move into the season of Lent and our journey with Jesus towards the cross and resurrection. See below for a few helpful resources at this time: a daily App, a video resource, a Lenten Carbon Fast and how to consume slavery-free chocolate.

Registrations for World Youth Day are coming to an end this month and registrations for our annual Youth Assembly are beginning. Plans are afoot and I am very excited about our program in Whyalla, which will include a pop and liturgical singer-songwriter, acts of mercy around Whyalla, an art project and more! See the Youtube video promo at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA7HiULEIgI.

Youth-led Masses are in preparation for the year, YCS is starting in Port Lincoln and the Whyalla altar servers go bowling. New beginnings everywhere! I pray we all may begin again as our relationship with God grows deeper this Lent. Then, after Easter, you may like to join us for the Easter Monday Pilgrimage…

Peace, Sr Elizabeth

XT3 Lent Calendar App
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Xt3.com, has released their annual Xt3 Lent Calendar App with the theme 'Open wide the Doors of Mercy'.

The Lent Calendar App is available to download now for FREE on your iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

Xt3's Lent Calendar will provide daily inspiration through Gospel readings, podcasts, videos, and reflections. The Calendar suggests a different Lenten practice for you each day. Previous xt3 Lent Apps have been used as a resource by teachers and youth ministers around Australia but this year there is another incentive in this Year of Mercy.

Ash Wednesday and Lent in 2 minutes
Looking for a quick way to explain Ash Wednesday to your friends? Look no further than Busted Halo’s two-minute video that describes the day which begins the season of Lent, and why Catholics and many Christians receive ashes on their foreheads

Lenten Carbon Fast Calendar 2016
This year Pope Francis calls on us to prepare for Easter by practising works of mercy.

May this calendar guide you to spread mercy to both people and the planet, in order to protect and preserve God’s Creation.

Buy Slavery-free Chocolate this Easter
In 2015 Pope Francis said that “every person ought to have the awareness that purchasing is always a moral – and not simply an economic – act.”

Join the Easter campaign against child slavery

Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans (ACRATH) is urging people to eat only slavery-free chocolate, especially this Easter.  Did you know that much of the chocolate available in Australia is made using cocoa beans picked by children, many of whom have been enslaved, or forced to work in exploitative conditions?

The International Labor Rights Forum (ILRF) estimates that there are 1.5 million children working in the cocoa sector in West Africa. To buy slavery-free Easter chocolate look for any of these certification labels on the wrappers: FAIRTRADE, Rainforest Alliance and UTZ.

ACTION: Make a decision to buy only slavery-free chocolate this Easter and discuss your decision with one other person. www.acrath.org.au
