Dear All,

As Lent gallops along, there are plenty of opportunities for reflection on God’s mercy to us and how we can be merciful to others…if we look for them in the cracks of space amidst the busy-ness of our lives. It could just be a simple moment of noticing: that was/would be an act of mercy. At the end of the day or week, we can thank God for all the mercy we have experienced.

This is a final call for interest in World Youth Day, to be held in Poland in July. If you feel the call to discovery – a new country, faith, community – please put down a few details at https://wyd2016.com.au/Register.aspx to start the process.

We have also been preparing for the Youth Assembly and musicians around the diocese have been playing and learning Steph Unger’s song. We look forward to her visit to St  Mark’s, St Barb’s and the Youth Assembly. Please register on the diocesan website (see below) for your chance to hear her and our youth musicians as well!

See below for updates on youth-led Masses, a job opportunity in Adelaide, youth ministry resources and a cartoon bit of fun for Lent!

Peace, Sr Elizabeth

Youth-led Masses and young adult groups
Youth-led Masses have started very successfully in Port Lincoln, with about 80 people attending on the 14th of February. They plan to continue with this each month. Whyalla and Port Augusta’s youth-led Masses continue for the year, with both celebrating Palm Sunday. Port Augusta’s Mass will be 6:30pm on the 19th of March and Whyalla’s will be 5:30pm on the 20th of March.

Whyalla is holding a Lenten study for youth and young adults and Port Augusta’s young adult group, Follow, Food and Friends, has been flourishing, with discussions on Resolutions and week 3 of Lent.

Caritas – Project Compassion in 2016
Now is the time to contribute to Project Compassion in Lent 2016! This year, we celebrate 50 years since the first national appeal was held in Lent of 1965. The appeal raised the equivalent of $90,000 towards community 'self-help' projects in countries like Papua New Guinea, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Every amount counts. This year your donations will be helping people such as Dominic (36), who lives with his wife and four children in Papua New Guinea. Generational poverty has led to many challenges, including inequality, alcohol abuse and violence. Dominic faced some of these challenges, but became involved in Caritas’s Community Conversations program. “I was inspired to hear of the different issues highlighted and processes used to come up with solutions,” Dominic explains.

Through regular Community Conversations training sessions, Dominic learnt communication and problem-solving skills that helped him lead open, respectful community discussions in his village. Dominic’s village has achieved greater peace and increased respect, as well as reduced violence and alcohol abuse. Now, Dominic’s community has a chance to thrive and create a better future for themselves.
