Youth Assembly 2016
Dear All,

We have returned – pumped up, inspired and grateful for the 2016 Youth Assembly in Whyalla. We had an amazing gathering with fantastic young people and their leaders who connected so well and put their all into making it a memorable weekend. We were blown away by Steph Unger’s stories and music, as she blended beautiful pop music with faith and mercy. She was there for the whole event and connected with everyone, touching their lives with a positive message about our value in God’s eyes. We also had great experiences of service activities – helping with St Vinnies, gardening and making educational resources for Aboriginal children. We met in small groups, some who made group t-shirts – and made friends. We ran around the school and surroundings for an Amazing Race in which everyone was the winner! We feasted on delicious food cooked up by generous parishioners. We were lead in prayer so beautifully by youth participants and had plenty of time to reflect on mercy. We made mosaics that brought out some surprising artistic talents. We looked after 2 sheep and 3 goats overnight in shifts and I have to say that the 5 am crew were just as keen as the night guards. We walked in the morning with Fr Jim, who shared with us the geology of ancient rocks that caused us to sing ‘How great is our God’. We all prepared for and participated in a meaningful Mass with Bishop Greg, who spoke right to our hearts. We ended with a concert that got us singing and dancing once again with passion and joy.
