Dear All,

We have just celebrated Reconciliation Week, with some moving ceremonies and acknowledgements of our need for justice, reconciliation and the gaining of wisdom from our First Peoples. This group is one of the ten categories listed as “people discarded in this throwaway culture”, which are highlighted as in need of attention in the upcoming federal election. The document of the Australian Bishops is called 'A Vote for the Voiceless' and the link is found below.

There is also a current website called 'Ask Pope Francis', in which young people can ask him anything. He will present various answers in an upcoming book.

Finally, the Muslim holy month of Ramadan has just begun and people of faith are being asked to take on a challenge of our own, in solarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters.

In Peace,

Elizabeth

Australian Prayer for WYD 2016

Leader:

As Australian pilgrims we travel as one people to celebrate God’s love and mercy at World Youth Day in Krakow. We pray for our own personal transformation:

All:

God of mercy, transform me,
that my eyes may be merciful,
that I may marvel at the beauty of my neighbour’s heart.

Transform me, O God,
that my ears may be merciful,
that I may be attentive to those in need.

Transform me, O God,
that my tongue may be merciful,
that all I proclaim is in love and peace.

Transform me, O God,
that my hands may be merciful,
that I use them to serve my neighbour.

Transform me, O God,
that my feet may be merciful,
that my pilgrim journey leads me to compassion.

Transform me, O God,
that my heart may be merciful,
ever open to the joy of your presence.

May Your mercy, O God,
rest upon me and transform me into Yourself,
for You are my all.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

Take on the Interfaith Ramadan Challenge and be in embodied solidarity with Muslims during this season:

Either:

  • Participate in FAST
  • PRAY or MEDITATE (in my own tradition) FIVE times per day
  • BREAK THE FAST with my Muslim neighbours and attend an interfaith IFTAR
  • SHARE my experience of Embodied Solidarity at Ramadan on Social Media and elsewhere with my family, friends and networks
