Dear All,

Since the last newsletter I have been in Kadina for a very successful inaugural Youth Day and in Port Lincoln with a class and catching up with youth ministry contacts old and new. It has been so inspiring to see the faith, good works and passion of people from across the Port Pirie Diocese. We have also had our regular Follow, Food and Friends, and youth-led Mass in Port Augusta.

Some items of interest below – caring for Our Common Home recognised as a new work of mercy, young religious vocations calls in Australia and a great landmark of the Year of Mercy – the canonisation of Mother Teresa.

In Peace, Elizabeth

Kadina Youth Day
The 27th of August brought together about 25 primary school children and 15 secondary/young adults in 2 separate events to the Kadina Catholic Church. Each group watched a film with a Christian theme (The Lion of Judah and October Baby), then had some food, watched a circus performance with a resurrection theme and heard a young adult talk about her faith. Everyone agreed that it was a wonderful event that should certainly be repeated!

Pope Francis has called for new work of mercy – care for our Common Home
The traditional corporal and spiritual works of mercy promoted by the Church have not specifically included mercy on the natural (non-human) world. Pope Francis has called for the works of mercy to be expanded to encompass caring for Our Common Home.

Mother Teresa was canonised by Pope Francis
Mother Teresa was canonised by Pope Francis on Sunday, with powerful events in Rome. In honour of her, food was provided to disadvantaged members of society as she would surely have us do. Pope Francis mentioned that while she is now ‘Saint’, so remains ‘Mother Teresa’ to many of us. https://cruxnow.com/vatican/2016/09/04/official-mother-teresa-now-catholic-saint/
