Dear All,

My time in this diocese as Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is coming to an end. And so I thought I would trawl through the 123 previous editions of this youth ministry e-news to bring you the ‘best-of’ series. That is actually a bit of a misnomer, as what I have collected from the past 4 years is necessarily biased to my own tastes and what I have found helpful. It is also a limited range of items; resources that are still available and timeless in quality – not for a particular church season or year.

So over the next few days, you will get three emails in this ‘best-of’ series: articles, web resources and videos. I hope you enjoy this short ready-guide to what is available on the web for youth ministry.

For today, I have three upcoming events to advertise: Follow, Food and Friends ‘Scripture on location’ event, the South Australian YCS October camp and a World Youth Day follow-on event.

In Peace, Elizabeth

FOLLOW, FOOD AND FRIENDS
‘Scripture on location’ - fish and chips on the beach!

Young adults from the All Saints Port Augusta parish and Catholic community gather to share a meal and discuss topics life, faith and community. Next gathering on Monday the 19th of October, at 6:30pm at the Eastside Foreshore, Port Augusta. This time, you are welcome to bring along your favourite story from the Bible about fish and some thoughts about it. Contact Sr Liz 0448 809 134 or Felicia 0402 103 820.

YCS CAMP
You are invited to attend the biennial South Australian YCS camp. Young Christian Students (YCS) is an international student run movement which gives students the opportunity to review issues of social injustice present in their ‘student’ reality. The movement aims to empower students to take action in their own lives, in order for them to act in the world in a way that reflects their morals, faith or beliefs.

Students involved in YCS across the world use the See, Judge & Act methodology to take action on social justice topics e.g. bullying, climate change etc. Students SEE what is happening underneath the surface of a situation present in their reality to determine what is really happening. Students then make a JUDGEment. This ‘judgement’ is both reflective and critical, it is an opportunity to review the issue using faith, morals and values to identify what they think should be happening in their reality. Following from this, the students determine what they would like to change and plan an ACTion to achieve this as a collective group of young people.

This retreat style camp being held from the 7th to the 10th of October at Cardijn College in Adelaide is part of the National Australian YCS Movement and this is the second of four which will be occurring from 2016 to 2018. The purpose of this camp is to give your child a chance to come together as a diocese to participate in one big SEE, JUDGE and ACT process to look at our campaign ‘Climate Justice’. It will involve partaking in various student facilitated sessions introducing some of the core concepts of the movement, personal reflection, having a say in the focus/ happenings of the national campaign and coming together with a bunch of likeminded students to develop skills and abilities as opinionated young leaders of the community, whilst having a lot of fun.

Furthermore, there is a small fee of $20, this will be for the meals and snacks which will be provided on the camp, any money left over will be contributed to future YCS activities or events, such as the next camp. Additionally, students will be required to bring some type of bedding, whether this be a sleeping bag or camp mattress, whatever your student wishes to bring to sleep on is acceptable. If you are unable to arrange bedding please contact Tahlia Sully. Furthermore, food donations would be greatly appreciated (a whole meal or just some snacks).

Thankyou for your time, we hope to see your son or daughter on the camp. If you have

anymore questions, please feel free to contact the Adelaide YCS Coordinator: Tahlia Sully.
